What is micaceous Cookware?
Micaceous cookware is a traditional style of pottery developed by the Apache Indians. It has been utilized in the southwest region for over 800 years.
The clay used to make this earthenware is hand dug and hand processed from the mountains of northern New Mexico.
The cookware is formed from a coil and scrape method. The walls are thin but evenly built. The pottery is placed in open depressions in the earth and set on fire from local pine bark causing “fire clouds” on each piece making them unique during the firing process.
The clay contains about 40% Mica, a good conductor of heat, which allows the pottery to hold its heat fairly well. Micaceous pottery is true organic cookware.
