What kind of relationship would you prefer?
I work part time at a small shop that sells Polish Pottery and other international goods. My approach when people walk in the door is to say “hello.” After they have walked around for a few minutes, I say “Let me know if I can help you or answer any questions.” I don’t usually approach them until they ask. I do sell a lot of pottery. My boss says this is wrong. She says you need to go over and talk to them. Even if they aren’t looking at the pottery, she talks about it with them. I usually see her follow people right to the door, like they are running from her. But sometimes she has a big sale with this approach. Do people prefer the inyourface approach? What would you suggest I do? How do you make the BIG sale?
I like your approach much better. I have actually walked out of places and they have lost a sale because they were to pushy and in your face. Keep up the good work.
